GRAPES Leaf Vine Seed Peral French Regional Antique 18k GOLD Solid Poissarde Dangle EARRINGS Ball Rivet Victorian Etruscan Gift Belle Epoque

I am selling an assortment of vintage to antique jewelry and rings which I have hunted for and gathered from around the world. Some examples seen in the last photo - thanks for stopping by!

ABOUT:

Wonderful French regional antique earrings in 18k rosy gold with a grape leaf leading down to a cluster of grapes rasied and applied to the face of the earrings. Side ball rivet linear details add to the beautiful scrolled/ curled form. These earrings are a substantial size and have a very antique look, like something you would see in a period movie. Beautiful antique rosy gold patina with rich lowlights.

The earrings have a lever back that clips into the ball rivet in the front at the top of the earring. This style of earring also has an additional wire below connecting the front and back curved sections of the earring, I assume for added stability. Similar to "Poissarde" earrings which is derived from the fishwives of Paris who were the first to wear them and who played a significant role during the French Revolution. The knowledgeable dealer I purchased these from thought these regional jewels were probably from Normandy. Regional, or folk jewelry, is defined by a particular style confined to a particular region.

Antique box is not included. Please note the measurements.

HALLMARKS:

The earrings are hallmarked on the wire with the French hallmarks for 18k gold used during the 1800s and discontinued in 1919 which helps confirm the age of the earrings. They also have a goldsmith stamp.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:

They are a nice size, measuring 22mm from the top of the wire to the bottom and 12mm wide. Combined weight is 2.45g.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

As with all my pieces these are pre-owned and in estate condition. Beautiful rich patina. Still nicely shaped. There are loops at the bottom of each that probably held a little gold dangle ball but both are no longer there. One has a shallow impression on the underside again not seen while wearing.

These have 150 year old hinges so they need gentle handling. Some buyers have reported that it takes some getting used to inserting from the back of the ear and hooking into the front as it does take some tactile strength with a still gentle hand. The hinges are loose so the ear wires can move side to side but they latch in very tightly and stay closed so they are wearable, just not recommended for 24/7 as they are very old with intricate parts.

Some wear and patina and build up to the pearls with some likely later replacements only noticeable under magnification.

There are no other dark spots to the gold, it is just mirrored and reflects its surroundings. But as with all my pre-owned pieces - Please note this is not a mint condition item.

I enjoy making my customers happy and matching unique pieces with new homes. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions! It means a lot to me that you are visiting my shop! : )

Thanks so much for looking at my items!
